Why I'm Writing Walk with Him

A Work in Progress

Walk with Him is a book I'm currently writing, and I'm not entirely sure where the journey will take me yet.

I didn't set out to become an author. I'm just a guy who has spent a lot of his life asking questions. Questions about who we are, why we're here, how our experiences shape us, what we believe, and where God fits into all of it.

The older I get, the more I find myself looking backward and noticing things I completely missed while I was living forward. People who showed up at the right time. Choices that changed the direction of my life. Failures that taught me something. Relationships that shaped me. Moments when I thought I was walking alone and, looking back, I'm no longer convinced that I was.

That's really where Walk with Him began.

The Journey

The book is being built around five parts of the journey:

In the Beginning
Where did my story begin? We look backward at our beginnings, wonder, separation, relationships, and the possibility that God was present long before we started looking for Him.

Becoming
Who am I becoming? Our identity, families, influences, choices, failures, and experiences are constantly shaping us, whether we realize it or not.

Discovery
What am I discovering to be true? This is where I want to explore some of the bigger questions about science, faith, truth, purpose, and what we can learn when we're willing to stay curious.

Walking
How do I live what I'm learning? Knowing something and living it aren't the same thing. This part explores faith in ordinary life through family, work, community, wandering, grace, forgiveness, and returning.

Legacy
What remains? Eventually, the walk becomes bigger than us. Our lives create ripples through the people we love, the people we influence, and the things we leave behind.

What I'm Going For

This isn't intended to be a book where I tell you what you have to believe.

I'm a Christian, so I'm writing from a Christian perspective. I'll talk about Scripture and Jesus because they're part of my journey. But I also want to talk about science, psychology, relationships, history, books I've read, people I've learned from, mistakes I've made, and questions I still don't know how to answer.

I don't want you to finish a chapter thinking, Travis told me what to think.

I'd much rather you put the book down thinking about your own life.

Where have you been?

Who shaped you?

What are you becoming?

What do you believe?

Where might God have been when you weren't looking for Him?

And where are you walking now?

Walk with Me

The book isn't finished.

I'm writing it chapter by chapter, sharing some of it along the way, listening to feedback, asking more questions, and probably changing things as I learn.

That seems appropriate for a book called Walk with Him.

Because I'm still walking too.
